The theme of this year's Homes for Scotland Annual Awards, now in their seventh year, reflected the challenges presented by the severe economic downturn, recognising that it will be the efforts of those remaining at the industry's core which will deliver the many new homes that Scotland desperately needs.
The Homes for Scotland People Awards 2009 attracted 46 entries from member companies, highlighting all levels and disciplines within the industry, across the following categories:
An Industry Achievement Award was also introduced to recognise exceptional effort and achievement in promoting the home building industry’s growth and success.
The submissions were judged by an independent panel chaired by Mary Mulligan MSP and member of the Scottish Parliament’s Local Government and Communities Committee (click here to read Mary's speech). The panel further comprised: Kennedy Foster – CML Scotland
Helen Stuart – General Manager, Scotland’s New Homebuyer
Graham Ogilvy – ConstructionSkills Scotland
Bill Jamieson – Executive Editor, The Scotsman
Nick Barley – Director, The Lighthouse.

Homes for Scotland’s Chief Executive Jonathan Fair said: “In spite of the dramatic and rapid loss of capacity that has been wreaked upon the industry, we must not lose sight of the fact that our members are continuing to strive to meet ambitious home building targets in the most difficult of circumstances. Rewarding the passion and commitment of those who remain involved in home building, at whatever level and in whatever function, is what the Homes for Scotland’s People Awards are all about.”
Introduced in 2003 in order to reflect the Scottish home building industry's commitment to best practice and improving standards, Homes for Scotland's Annual Awards have previously considered design, customer service and innovation, all key areas of importance not only to the industry, but also to a wide range of influential stakeholders, including Scottish Government, which have welcomed the initiative.
