Record number of entries received for home building awards reflect sector’s increasing optimism

Issued 25 March 2014)

Entries for industry body Homes for Scotland’s annual Awards scheme have reached record levels this year, with 91 submissions received across nine categories.

The awards seek to promote best practice and raise standards across the new build sector. They also demonstrate the industry’s commitment to moving forward by addressing barriers to recovery and highlight its positive approach to working with a wide range of partners to deliver the thousands of homes needed in Scotland.

The submissions are now being assessed by an independent judging panel, which is chaired by Sir Muir Russell, Chairman, National House Building Council (NHBC) Scottish Committee (right), who said:

“A number of encouraging market signals have lifted confidence throughout the home building sector since the beginning of the year and the volume of submissions to the Homes for Scotland Awards is a further indication of this increasing optimism.”

Winners, as well as the recipients of the prestigious Lifetime Achievement and Home Builder of the Year awards, will be announced at the Homes for Scotland Annual Lunch (sponsored by Burness Paull) in Edinburgh on Friday 16 May.

Hosted by Rory Bremner and with over 600 guests already confirmed to attend, Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon will also be delivering the keynote address to what promises to be the single largest industry gathering ahead of Scotland’s referendum on independence.
