Scotland’s key housing and professional bodies today called for politicians to tackle the country’s housing crisis by supporting an increase in the supply of warm, sustainable homes that meet a diverse set of needs and aspirations. In an open letter ahead of May’s parliamentary election, the organisations highlighted that overall levels of production have slumped by 40% since 2007, with demand amongst the country’s growing population continuing to outstrip supply. However, with research indicating that every new home built supports four jobs as well as making a positive impact on a wide range of policy areas, the social and economic benefits of increasing production are clear.
