Quality Awards attract over 50 entries

Demonstrating the determination of home builders to overcome the difficulties of the last two years, Homes for Scotland has received over 50 entries for its 2010 Quality Awards.

Chief Executive Jonathan Fair said:

“With Scotland facing its biggest housing crisis since the Second World War, there has never been a greater need for the new homes our members are desperate to provide.  However, despite the fragile confidence that may be returning to the marketplace, we remain a long way off from a recovery and it is clear that many challenges require to be overcome before we can look forward to any meaningful increase in output.

“Reflecting this, our Quality Awards encompass a range of issues high both on our own strategic agenda and those of our stakeholders. In addition to encouraging positive partnership working with government agencies and Local Authorities, they will also provide some extremely valuable learning opportunities for both public and private sectors.  This is precisely what sets our Awards scheme apart.  It is unrivalled in terms of reach and credibility, and in addressing the issues that really matter to the industry’s future health such as the environment and sustainability, skills and training and community engagement.”

The independent judging panel has already met for an initial review of the submissions and was impressed by the quality and innovative nature of the entries.

Housing Minister Alex Neil, who will attend the organisation’s Annual Lunch on Friday 21 May when winners will be announced, said:

“I am delighted to lend my support to the Homes for Scotland Quality Awards 2010. At a difficult time for the home building industry, they provide a welcome opportunity to showcase the excellence and commitment to quality of home builders and their partners throughout Scotland.”
