Home builders reinforce importance of Scottish Government support with Housing Minister

In a week when official housing statistics showed ongoing falls in housing production, Scottish home building industry leaders met with Housing Minister Keith Brown (Thursday 1 September) and emphasised the continuing importance of Scottish Government initiatives to support and stimulate the sector.

The wide range of issues discussed included:

- increasing the flow of mortgage finance, particularly for vital first time buyers
- government plans to implement the policies set out in "Homes fit for the 21st Century"
- how to encourage a greater level of Local Authority engagement with the National Housing Trust
- embedding planning system reform across Scotland

Homes for Scotland Chief Executive Jonathan Fair (right) said:

"The Minister came with a listening ear and so we enjoyed a very frank discussion. He was able to take views directly from a range of senior industry figures whose businesses cover all market segments."

Minister for Housing and Transport Keith Brown said:

“I was very pleased to meet with the Homes for Scotland Board.

“It was an opportunity to hear, first hand, their views on the issues facing the house-building industry and to discuss the range of actions that house builders and the Scottish Government are taking in response.

“The Scottish Government recognises the critical importance of the industry to Scotland’s future economic prosperity, and we are determined to continue to do all that we can to support it at this difficult time.”
