Homes for Scotland Chief Executive Jonathan Fair (right) said:

“Unrivalled in terms of reach and credibility, the Homes for Scotland Quality Awards address the issues that really matter to the future health of one our most vital industries.

“With 49 entries, this year we will recognize companies who have successfully introduced initiatives to assist in the delivery and purchase of much needed new homes, protect and enhance skills and staff resources, and lower carbon emissions whilst facing severe budgetary constraints.

“Promoting such best practice will not only demonstrate what our industry is already achieving in the toughest of circumstances, but also illustrate the potential of what can be further realised in terms of sustainable economic development with the appropriate Government support and encouragement.”

Winners will be announced at the Homes for Scotland Annual Lunch at the EICC on Friday 13 May at which Ian Marchant, Chief Executive of Scottish and Southern Energy and Chair of Scotland’s 2020 Climate Group will be the keynote speaker. Over 520 industry representatives and their guests are already confirmed to attend what remains the premier event in the Scottish home building industry’s calendar and which is being sponsored for the fifth year in succession by Bell & Scott. Notes to Editors:

Homes for Scotland (www.homesforscotland.com) represents the country’s home building industry which, prior to the onset of the credit crunch,:

- was the largest source of private investment in Scotland and the largest user of the planning system

- built 20,000 new private homes each year, contributed £6bn to the economy and supported the employment of 100,000 people (2007 figures)

As a result of the economic downturn, housing supply is now touching all time lows. This is having far-reaching and long-term social and economic consequences for Scotland's population.
