HFS recognises calls to make housing a national priority

Homes for Scotland, the representative body for the country’s home building industry, today recognised the shared concerns of three housing and construction bodies in relation to calls for greater investment in affordable rented housing developed by housing associations and co-operatives.

The Scottish Building Federation (SBF), the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations (SFHA) and the Glasgow and West of Scotland Forum of Housing Associations (GWSF) have collectively called on the Scottish Government to make housing a national priority in order to address the rising demand for affordable housing while boosting both the economy and job opportunities.

Speaking in response to the asks of the joint statement, Homes for Scotland’s Chief Executive Jonathan Fair (right) said:

“We are pleased to see the case for additional funding being raised by these organisations and support both the spirit and intent behind the key points they raise.

“Encouraging and financing house building across all tenures is an on-going priority for economic recovery and one which therefore continues to be a key policy agenda.

“We recognise that each and every organisation within the housing sector has a role to play in raising the profile of our housing crisis and driving increased capital investment in Scotland. It is therefore essential that we work together to deliver the full range of housing options as recognised by the Scottish Government.”
