Planning system must be predictable, consistent and proportionate, say home builders

Scotland needs a planning system which is predictable, consistent and proportionate according to home building industry body Homes for Scotland in its response to an Audit Scotland report published today.

Allan Lundmark, the organisation’s Director of Planning, said:

“The home building industry is the largest single user of the planning system. Whilst we warmly welcomed the intent behind the modernization agenda introduced by the Scottish Government, many of the promised benefits are still to filter through in terms of the day-to-day experience of our member companies and in delivering the many thousands of new homes Scotland urgently needs.

“The challenge is to move away from a system which simply takes as long as it takes and costs as much as it costs to get to an outcome to one which helps deliver projects on time to budget and also puts stakeholders at its heart.”
