Housing Minister launches NHT affordable homes scheme in Borders

Scottish Housing Minister Keith Brown has visited the Borders to officially launch the first phase of affordable homes which will be developed under the National Housing Trust (NHT) initiative.

The NHT model, which is led by the Scottish Government and Scottish Futures Trust, will see developers Tweed Homes and Scottish Borders Council jointly fund the purchase of dozens of homes, which will be made available for rent at below market rates.

Tweed Homes will build 26 houses in Galashiels and 25 in Innerleithen.

Homes for Scotland's Chief Executive Jonathan Fair (right) said:

"The National Housing Trust is making a significant difference to the companies involved in delivering these much needed new homes for the people of Scotland, enabling them to retain vital jobs, skills and capacity that might otherwise be under considerable pressure."
