Home builders respond to latest Scottish housing statistics

Responding to the latest Scottish Government housing statistics which continue to show a decrease in both the number of new homes completed and started in Scotland in 2010/11 compared with a year earlier, Jonathan Fair, Chief Executive of home building industry body Homes for Scotland (right) said:

"Excluding the years surrounding the Second World War and the impact of public spending cuts in 1982, housing production in Scotland is now at its lowest since 1931. Today's figures confirm the continuing importance of Scottish Government interventions and initiatives such as the National Housing Trust, New Supply Shared Equity with Developers scheme and its support for the development of a mortgage indemnity guarantee scheme.

"We look forward to discussing these and other issues directly with Housing Minister Keith Brown at a meeting with the Board of Homes for Scotland on Thursday."
