Home builders respond to latest Scottish housing statistics

As latest Scottish Government figures show a continuing decline in both the number of starts and completions of private sector new homes, Allan Lundmark, Director of Planning at industry body Homes for Scotland, said:

"This ongoing downward trend must be arrested and highlights the importance of Scottish Government continuing support in terms of pushing on with and expanding our joint "MI New Home" mortgage indemnity scheme which will launch in the New Year and help drive 95% lending back into the market in Scotland for those who can demonstrably afford such mortgages.

"We also desperately need intervention to remove the other barriers to development facing builders through the local planning system.

"Only then will be able to deliver the many thousands of new homes desperately needed across all tenures whilst creating vital jobs and stimulating economic growth."
