Growth in residential sales very encouraging say home builders

(Issued 3 April 2014)

A recent survey of new home buyers in Scotland has revealed record levels of customer satisfaction, with 93% of customers satisfied with the quality of their new home and the same number indicating that they would recommend their builder to a friend.

The data has been collected via the National New Homes Survey which is operated by the National House Building Council (NHBC) with the results for Scottish homeowners analysed for industry body Homes for Scotland.

The 2012/13 (full year position) statistics are a further indicator of increased optimism throughout the sector, as Homes for Scotland Chief Executive Philip Hogg (right) highlights:

“Despite a number of barriers to recovery still evident within our sector, these figures reinforce the commitment of the new build industry to deliver the thousands of quality, sustainable homes which the country so desperately requires, and all while offering first class customer service.

“The benefits of buying new are far-reaching, and include the protection of the Consumer Code for Home Builders and a ten year guarantee. Coupled with a number of assistance schemes, such as Help to Buy (Scotland) which is now firmly established as another valuable tool offered by the new build sector to those creditworthy buyers looking to move onto or up the housing ladder, there has never been a better time to buy.”

Director of NHBC Scotland Malcolm Macleod said:

“This year’s survey results demonstrate the continuous commitment to customer care being made by the new home building industry which results in it achieving levels of customer satisfaction that are comparable with any other industry.

“The high levels of customer satisfaction recorded by Scottish home buyers confirm that purchasers are being well served by an industry which often has to operate in challenging environments yet in spite of this continues to manufacture bespoke products to a high standard of finish."
